Within a month, most of us have had our lives completely changed as we shelter-in-place. Some have become remote employees, others are now homeschooling their children while essential employees remain on the front-lines fighting against the Coronavirus. Small, local businesses are no doubt taking a hit and now more than ever, they need your support too.
The good news is that you CAN help your neighborhood and stay socially distant! Here are three ways you can make a difference and show some love to your favorite small business during these uncertain times.
Collectiv is proud to work with vendors and artisans that call Chicago and Portage Park home. When you shop at Collectiv, you’re supporting your neighbor. Start your online order today for contact-free dropoff.
Shop Online
One of the easiest things you can do to support your local businesses is shop online. Consider shopping online instead of buying from big chain retailers. Take a day to order online from your favorite local restaurant. Buy gift cards to use in the future at your favorite hair salons, fitness studios and more.
Many local businesses are going out of their way to provide contactless delivery and special services. Take advantage of these offers as you shop from home. Know that right now, you’re not just buying something new or treating yourself to lunch, you’re investing in your neighborhood and supporting the businesses that need it most.
Leave A Review
Looking for something to do while sheltering-in-place? Getting a good review helps local businesses thrive. Write down a few of your favorite local businesses and spend some time crafting them a fantastic review. Google Reviews, Yelp and TripAdvisor are great places to start.
Got writer’s block? Think about what makes your favorite local shop has that makes it special to your neighborhood. Why do you love it? How does the staff go out of their way? Hit that 5-star button and get writing!
Show Some Love!
In addition to leaving a review and shopping online, tell your favorite business how much you love them. Drop an email, share on Facebook, or even write them a note! A little bit of encouragement goes a long way to make someone’s day brighter.
Many local businesses have fundraising pages set up for employees who are not able to work right now. Consider donating what you would normally spend, or -- share the fundraiser on social media to get others involved with a business you care about. Your support, big and small, is important!
During these uncertain times, lets spread love and not germs. Support local, love local!
